Dr. Becky Taylor

When and why did you decide to pursue ophthalmology?

I was asked to tutor a blind woman in biology lab my junior year at the University of Colorado Boulder. For one year I served as her “eyes,” helping her visualize what she couldn’t see in the microscope or world around her. Her challenges were incredibly severe and all-encompassing; my life’s pursuit became saving sight.

Where do you practice?

Nashville, TN and Brentwood, TN

What is the biggest challenge you’ve had to overcome in your career so far?

Balance. Finding the sweet spot between caring for the needs of family while tending patients who put their most precious sense in my hands. There are huge responsibilities and joy in both life duties and neither can be neglected. Luckily, I’ve had a practice that supported my family demands, and a family that encouraged and understood my clinic/surgical needs.

What are you most proud of, both in your career and personally?

Professionally: That I live my life in service to others every single day. The number of patients who have told me after surgical or medical care,  “You’ll never know how much you’ve helped me,” or “I cannot begin to tell you how much you’ve made my life better,” is a very long list. I am most proud of being a help to others in need.

Personally: I’ve gotten to be a mother and raise two wonderful children. It is the greatest joy of my life.

How do you spend your time away from work?

I enjoy cooking, gardening, paddling, running, hiking, travel (outside of Covid!) and spending time with family and friends.

Although 2020 has been challenging, what has been a bright spot for you?

Adapting! We’ve been able to successfully care for patients by navigating the pandemic well. Keeping our doors open means my wonderful office staff remains employed and their lives are stable. A WIN!
