In 2017, the Tennessee Academy of Ophthalmology drafted legislation that would allow those patients with chronic eye conditions who have commercial health insurance to refill prescriptions after 23 days for a 30-day prescription. The legislation passed the House and Senate and was signed into law on April 28, 2017.

Tennessee joins 50 other states in ensuring that early refills are possible for patients that desperately need them.
