Mark Melson, M. D. was the 54th president of the Tennessee Academy of Ophthalmology (TNAO).  He took office on January 1, 2014, and served a two year term. Dr. Melson is trained as an Oculoplastic and Orbital surgeon.  He has expertise in the management of diseases of the eyelids, tear ducts, and eye sockets in both adults and children.

Dr. Melson earned his medical degree from the University of Virginia School of Medicine and completed his residency in ophthalmology at Harvard Medical School, Boston, MA. He did two fellowships 1) Oculoplastic, Orbital and Cosmetic Surgery at Emory Eye Center, Atlanta, GA and 2) Neuro-Ophthalmology also at Emory.

Dr. Melson has expertise in the management of diseases of the eyelids, tear ducts, and eye sockets in both adults and children. He is particularly interested in reconstruction of the tissues around the eye following cancer removal or trauma. He is actively engaged in clinical research and has presented his research findings at numerous national meetings.
